EU Regulations for Jewelry and Accesories

REACH refers to “Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals”, which contains the registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemical substances in the product exported to EU. REACHANNEX XVII has replaced 76/769/EEC since June, 1, 2009, which contains more than 60 kinds of chemical substances at present. For jewelry, the chemical substances limited are mainly lead, cadmium, nickel release and phthalates, etc. In addition, the jewelry also should meet SVHC according to REACH article 57.

2.   Any articles shall submit a notification to the Agency if both the following conditions are met:
(1)     the substance is present in the articles above a concentration of 0,1 % by weight.
(2)     the substance is present in the articles in quantities totaling over 1 tonne per producer or importer per year.
3. According to the 2008/98/EC ‘Waste Framework Directive’ (WFD Directive), articles containing more than 0.1% (w/w) of SVHC must be notified to ECHA on SCIP.
