Receipts Found Containing Carcinogenic Substance BPA

Recently, U.S. Environmental Organization Environmental Working Group found that gift receipts or cash register receipts contain a toxic chemical called Bispheno-A (BPA), even if contacting the receipts, BPA can enter into the body through skin, prolonged contacting will cause endocrine disrupted, even cancer.

Researcher tested 36 pieces of receipts, and found that over 40% of the receipts contained excessive BPA. The content in receipts is 250 to 1000 times more than the products known containing BPA (e.g. canned milk).

Jinshi Dong, the International Foodstuff Packing of the President and the Secretary-general pointed out that it is very common that receipts contain BPA, since all the receipts used now are waterproof, with increased transparency, and BPA will be used in the light materials of the receipt.

BPA is an environmental hormone, usually found in plastic product, and epoxide resins of food containers. It may permeate into food, absorbed by body. Study indicates that BPA is an endocrine disruptor, causing endocrine disorder; furthermore, it poses a greater harm to infant, causing genetic mutation, effecting normal development; and for adult, it may reduce reproductive capable.

BPA poses a serious risk to human, and it has been prohibited or restricted in Canada, Denmark and France. Many states in USA including New York, Connecticut, Maryland, Minnesota, and Washington also promote legislation on it. The World Health Organization (WHO) will also commence a study on BPA’s effect to human health.
