According to Official Journal of the European Union on 18 December 2018, the European Commission implementing decision (EU) 2018/2013 on the identification of 1,7,7-trimethyl-3-(phenylmethylene)bicyclo[2.2.1]heptan-2-one(3-benzylidenecamphor) as a substance of very high concern pursuant to article 57(f) of regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 of the European parliament and of the council.
The Commission notes that in line with the opinion of the MSC (the Member State Committee of the Agency) 3-benzylidene camphor alters the function of the endocrine system and hence has an endocrine mode of action, and 3-benzylidene camphor induces irreversible and long lasting effects on wild life populations. Hence, 3-benzylidene camphor should be identified as a substance of very high concern pursuant to Article 57(f) of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 due to its endocrine disrupting properties with probable serious effects to the environment.
