From April 1, 2011, the Consumer Protection Act of Singapore has been expanded to cover 15,000 categories up from current 45, including general consumer goods such as toys, baby products, textiles, DIY products, sports equipment.
The current version of the Act covers a list of 45 electrical, electronic and gas home appliances considered as “Controlled Goods”, and prior to get permit for sale in Singapore, these controled goods are required to have registration by SPRING. With the expanded scope, suppliers will now have to ensure that the general consumer goods will have to meet international safety standards. No additional paperwork is required to be submitted.
Consumer goods that are required to meet international safety standards include but not limit to Children’s Toys, Baby Products, Power Tools, Textiles and Apparel, Sports and recreation products, Costume Jewellery
