Taiwan Sampling Inspection on Aquatic Showed Malachite Green in 40% fish

Taiwan food safety alarmed again. The announcement of Taiwan Department of Health(DOH) Food and Drug Administration on 5th July showed that there were doping-malachite green detected in aquatic products samples containing 40% wuzai fish for sale.

Lately, Taiwan DOH executed a plan named Monitoring Animal Medication Residue in Food for Sale, checked 37 saled fish including wuzai fish,  wuguo fish, milkfish 10 pieces per kind and the eel seven pieces. Among them 4 pieces wuzai fish were detected of reduced malachite green of 0.001、0.002、0.003 and 0.376ppm respectively, and the one of 0.376ppm reduced malachite green also detected of  0.002ppm malachite green.

Animal experiments show that, long-term consumption of reduced malachite green may  cause liver toxicity and tumor, Taiwan had disabled reduced malachite green.

According to The animal medication residue standards, there won’t be malachite green and reduced malachite green in fish; the fish farmers who use chemicals illegally caused residual will be punished by the Agriculture Administration.
