September 11, 2012, Health Canada and Grand Fortune recalled children's jewellery produced in China. The number of recalled product is approximately 13,176. The reason is that metallic components of these jewellery contain greater content of lead and cadmium than the limits under Canada Consumer Product Safety Act. Neither Health Canada nor Grand Fortune Import has received any reports of incidents or illnesses related to the use of these products, however Health Canada still suggests consumers to take the recalled jewellery away from children and dispose of the item in their regular household waste.
This recall involves various pieces of Shell Magic children's jewellery made in China. The jewellery is a black cord necklace or bracelet with an embellished shell pendant or charm, and metallic clasp. These products were sold from 2005 to September 2012.
Under the Children's Jewellery Regulations of the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act, the contents of heavy metals in jewellery are restricted.
