France to ban BPA in food contact materials from 2015

The French government has voted to ban the use of bisphenol A in all food contact materials from 2015.

In a second reading, MPs unanimously backed the proposal, agreeing a 12-month delay on its introduction compared with the original draft.

Health and consumer groups are unhappy with the delay , while the plastics industry remains insistence that such move is of no benefit to public health and is to violate EU food contact laws.
