An order EINC1417419A, to extend the temp formamide ban on toys foam called "carpet-puzzle" containing more than 200 mg/kg of formamide for a period of one year, was published in the Official Journal of the French Republic on October 3, 2014. It means the valid of formamide ban will be end on September 15, 2015. Formamide is toxic for reproduction, mainly used as an intermediate, minor used as solvent, as reagent chemical (in the pharmaceutical industry) and as laboratory chemical. The substance seems further to be used in the agrochemical industry and as a plasticiser. It is one of substances in List of Substance of Very High Concern under REACH.
